Nimona is a graphic novel about a shapeshifter. Nimona is the sidekick of Ballister Blackheart and together they want to expose the bad things Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and everyone at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics do.
This is the first graphic novel I read and I’m glad it was the first. I absolutely enjoyed everything about it. The art was stunning. Even though I know nothing about art, I loved the art in this graphic novel. I really adored seeing Nimona with pink hair and purple hair.
I loved Nimona as a main character. She was so optimistic, brave, smart and hilarious. Even though she had lived a sad life, being Ballister’s sidekick made her happy. In some ways, they complimented each other. He was a sad person, wanting to get revenge but he didn’t know how to do it… well, actually he knew but Ballister needed something or someone to push him, to make him believe that he could do it. Nimona came into his life and she made him believe, and Ballister became her friend which was something she needed. The people in this story communicate via an advanced video calling technology which was pretty cool. The ending was sad but happy at the same time. I was happy for Ballister and Ambrosius, but Nimona didn’t get a happy ending like them. She’s now alone in the world, but I think she’s going to keep an eye on Ballister like she did when he was at the hospital.
I think this graphic novel has a good message for us. No matter what you are, no matter what you’ve done, there will be people by your side and you can always do better. I don’t know, I think it says that and it’s good because it’s true. It was impossible to not get hooked when reading this. I started it and when I finished the first chapter I was like “wow, this is good” and then “omg, I’ve read 100 pages already?!?!!”. Noelle should write more of Nimona. I would love to read more about her, and also, more of Ballister and Ambriosius.
If you want a funny and quick read, pick up this graphic novel… you won’t regret it. Highly recommend it. As I said, this is the first graphic novel I read and I enjoyed it so if you can recommend me some good graphic novels, I’ll appreciate it.
