One of the first things that I liked about this book was the writing style of Jasmine Warga. I wanted to read this book since it came out but somehow I never picked it up at the bookstore. I did a book exchange a few months ago and I sweet friend of mine decided to send me this book as I gift because she loved it so much.
First of all, this book might trigger people that have dealt with suicidal thoughts. Reading this book made me sad, but happy at the end because they found reasons to see life beautiful, and that it’s something we should appreciate. It made me sad at first because I know how hard is to have suicidal thoughts and think you’re worth nothing, but later on I realized life is beautiful and that I’m worth everything. I learned how to love myself, and all my flaws. That made me stop having those horrible thoughts that haunted me for years.
Aysel and Roman met through a website called Suicide Partners (I won’t explain what it is about because the name says it all). Ever since they met, they started doing everything together which made them fill their broken lives. They knew their secrets, and the reason behind their death wish.
Since I started reading about Aysel I thought she didn’t really wanted to die. They way she acted made me believe she just needed reasons or someone to change her mind. However, I believed Roman wanted to die so bad because the guilt he was feeling was stronger than everything. There was nothing that could make him change his mind, and sometimes he irritated me because he said some things that made me scream to the book “dude, stop it, life is beautiful”. Then I said, don’t be stupid Nino, he’s depressed… you should understand him.
What I really enjoyed about this book is that it is more than a story, it has message to all of those who are going through hard times and having suicidal thoughts… a message of hope and that you are not alone. There’s always someone there able to help you go through everything you’re feeling until you’re feeling better.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to everyone, This book is life-affirming, it has love, hope… it is more than two kids wanting to kill themselves. Just read this book, and you’ll understand why it is so amazing.
