ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

I always suffer while reading a book by Cassie Clare, but Lord of Shadows’ ending broke my fucking heart. The last book by Cassie that shattered my heart was City of Glass, and you all know that was a long time ago.

Anyway, get comfortable and have some tea, coffee, soda, beer, wine or whatever you prefer because I have a lot to talk about.

“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.”

First of all, I’m so glad we got the chance to know Kit a lot better. You all know Kit, right? The Lost Herondale? Christopher Herondale? If you’ve read the Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, you should know him. You know I love the Herondales, especially Jace. However, I already feel so much love for Kit… well, not the same love I feel for Jace but you get what I’m saying. Kit has potential to become one of the greatest Shadowhunters in history. Well, not like Jace and Emma but close.

Enough talking about Kit. Well, who am I kidding? I won’t stop talking about Kit. However, I need to talk about the character development because it was fucking fantastic. Well, to be honest, it was radical and fantastic compared to the character development in The Mortal Instruments series. I mean, TMI is and will always be my favorite Shadowhunter series but I have to say that the character development was kind of slow compared to how it’s happening in The Dark Artifices.

The Blackthorns and Emma are so much mature than they were in Lady Midnight. Well, Emma is still a little bit reckless but let’s be real, she’s just like Jace. Ty was one of the characters that impressed me the most because he was more confident and talkative, and I’m pretty sure Kit, in one way or another, made that happened. Another character that impressed me was Diana Wrayburn, and not because she grew as a character (she has always been mature), but because of her past. I wasn’t expecting that at all, but Cassandra Clare always introduces diverse characters and that makes me really happy because not every author does that.

You know there’s always a character you don’t trust even though you try. Well, in this case, is the Seelie Queen. The thing is, I haven’t trusted her since The Mortal Instruments and that hasn’t changed at all. I get that she wants to “help” and end the Cold Peace, but who says she won’t try to do something bad as soon as she gets her hands on the Black Volume of the Dead? Anyway, guess which another character I don’t trust? Yes, you got that right, The Unseelie King. That bastard reminds me the King of Adarlan (if you’ve read Throne of Glass you know him pretty well), and I just want to strangle him. What a cold-hearted bastard. I fucking know he’s going to make a big mess in the last installment, I just know it.

I have to admit one thing, the plot was absolutely brilliant. I loved how fast-paced this book was, and how there was always a little bit of action in every chapter. The whole thing with Malcolm and Annabel was amazing. I’m mad at her because of everything she did at the end of this book, but I don’t judge her. Yes, she shouldn’t have done that, but if you force someone who was tortured to do things they don’t feel comfortable with, don’t expect them to act nicely.

Overall, this absolutely has become one of my favorite reads of 2017. Cassandra Clare killed it with this fantastic book. It has heartbreak, binding spells, badass Shadowhunters (of course), death, forbidden love, and so much more. If you haven’t read a book set in the Shadowhunter world, I highly recommend you guys to do it. There are a lot of books but you won’t regret it, trust me. Lord of Shadows broke my heart and I’m still recovering, but I’m so glad I finally read it. Can’t wait for the next book by Cassie.
