Book: They Both Die at the End

Author: Adam Silvera

Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Rating: ★★★★★

They Both Die at the End is one of the most wonderful books I’ve ever read. Don’t get me wrong, this book is really sad but it also has a huge and important message for all of us.

“But no matter what choices we make – solo or together – our finish line remains the same … No matter how we choose to live, we both die at the end.”

I know most of us wonder when and how we’re going to die, and it’s not fun to think about it. Imagine receiving a phone call telling you that you only have 24 hours left. Personally, I would freak out. However, Mateo and Rufus handled it quite nicely. Death is not a fun topic and is not funny to think about it, but these two boys turned things around and decided to enjoy those 24 hours they had left.

“Life isn’t meant to be lived alone. Neither are End Days.”

They met through an app called “Last Friend” which was created for those who are looking for someone to spend their End Day. There was chemistry between them, and you could feel it as soon as they started chatting. They treated each other like they were friends since forever. What I liked the most about them was how they helped each other become the version of themselves they always wanted to be. They didn’t force each other to change, they just did it in such a natural and realistic way, I loved it. I loved every character in this book, except for Peck and his ridiculous gang but I’m pretty sure you all hated them as well.

This book teaches us to live every single day like it could be our last, to enjoy the little things, to demonstrate our family and significant others how important they are to us, to love them every day a little bit more, to not let anyone stand in your way, to do everything in your power to achieve your dreams, and so much more. Even though is a sad book and shatters your heart, it also makes you happy. How can I say that? Well, you’ll understand when you read it.

“Maybe it’s better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs.”

I have always heard that Silvera’s writing was really good, and I finally can say that it is true. I loved his writing style and how fast paced this book was. You get hooked instantly, and you won’t be able to stop. You’ll feel like you’re on a roller coaster; your emotions will be all over the place. I cannot recommend this enough. Please, go and read. it.

  1. I’ve never read this book, but I’ve read my fair shares of reviews about it.
It’s crazy how even though you know that they’re gonna die in the end, it still shocks you and makes you sad.
Silvera really wrote that book well to have this many positives about it and the reactions it’s received.
